There are the obvious senses that we have. Sight, touch and hearing. I’ve come to realise that we connect in other ways, or shall I state other dimensions. There are those other senses when we have knowledge of something without obvious “evidence”.
I experienced one of those interesting connections this morning. I’m preparing to play with the band today. I don’t have transport this weekend because my car is still at the garage being repaired. I’d decided to get the bus to Broadstairs and was about to leave the house when it occurred to me that I needed to check whether extra equipment is required. Once of the guys in the band, Joe, is someone I’m pretty close to. I rang him just before leaving and discovered that his mobile phone was engaged. I waited a few seconds and rang again. “Hi Mart. I just tried to ring you!”. You see, Joe had thought to ring me at exactly the same moment. There is some kind of spiritual connection between us. I guess some might call it ESP. It is not the first time something like this has happened with people that I’m close too. It happens most often with my wife.
There is something very important about whom we socialise with. The relationships we build through our lives play a large part upon who we become. They also form the beliefs we have about the world around us. Myself, Joe and the rest of the band are a pretty close group. We have that essential common interest of making music for the sheer joy of it. Making musical connections also builds powerful connections emotionally.
Do you have a positive outlook on life?
If so, have you considered how others will pick up on positive attitude and behaviour?
The opposite is also true. You’ll notice how those with a negative outlook can powerfully affect those around them.
We are social animals that thrive on communication. You’ll realise that positive communication is far more effective when there is a good rapport between people. Rapport also produces those intangible communications that occur outside of the 3 obvious senses of sight, touch and hearing.
Have you had experiences such as described above? I’d love to hear some testimonies.

Do your eyes get really tired from reading as mine do?
Do you have trouble proof reading your own articles and get frustrated when you have missed a grammatical error in your content?
I’ve found a great way to overcome this. It is simple and very time saving. I recommend using text reading software. I’ve tested a product called Natural Reader. The voice produced on it is very easy on the ear. It is also very inexpensive. It saves so much time and effort stops that temptation to skip content, especially when reading an instructional article. You can just close you eyes and listen if you wish. Here is the link. I’ve had a bit of a challenge in the last week. Having taken a short break in Cornwall with The Beggars’ Belief Band, I arrived back home last Sunday to discover that somebody had attempted to steal my car. Smashed window and wrecked console under the steering wheel has resulted the car being at the garage all week awaiting assessment for insurance purposes. I received advice on this whilst about 250 miles away last Sunday. A bit of the old me would have got very angry and upset about this incident. Well….. lets just say that I was pretty peeved. The issue is, what could I do about it?
* First and foremost, I can’t change what has happened.
* I needed to take immediate actiononce getting home and that is what I did. It is just so important to stay as calm as possible in situations like this. Stress is unavoidable, however I chose to keep it to a minimum. The incident has caused a shift that may possibly have a better outcome than the status quo.
What is you attitude when faced with a challenge such as the one I have described?
Do you get caught is the tension and drama that can block any effective action?

Now there is a headline that is sure to draw in a few people.
It seems to me that so many of us spend so much of our lives seeking to be rich in a “having lots of money” sense. There has been a fair amount in interest in the fact regarding a couple that won 161 million pounds on the euro millions draw in the last week. Wins like that always stir up a discussion about what we we do if we won a fortune. Everyone has some sort of idealistic vision on that count.
The point is, how do we define “rich”?
For instance, if some told you that you could have a fortune in gold, but that you had to discard everything you own and that you had to survive in the middle of the Sahara desert, the 161 million would be effectively worthless. Money, in itself does not feed us, nor quench our thirst. It can be exchanged for those things and many others provided they are available. To that end, we can argue that money, as far as value, does not exist! Money is only as valuable as what you can exchange it for. This whole concept is apparent when a global banking crisis occurs such as what has happened in the last couple of years or so.
Someone once said to me very recently that he had virtually no money at all for a few days, however he felt like the richest man alive, simply because he was able to spend a short amount of time with some family, something that had been denied him for some time.
So, what is the true meaning of riches? It is not money in itself, albeit, having some can assist in providing some of the following if used effectively: –
True riches is having time and space to achieve and fulfill dreams. It is having the opportunity to make progress in our lives and bask in the glory of that achievement. There is a richness in friendship and companionship. There is a richness in positive communication. There is a richness in love and respect. There is a richness in giving out of love and compassion. There is a richness in winning with integrity i.e. without cheating. There is a richness discovering, learning and achieving unique skills. Some of those skills can be how to survive in nature. If we have survival skills i.e. how to live off the land, then we are rich indeed!
Do you seek to be rich?
How rich do you consider yourself to be?
Is it all about storing up money?
Are you aware that apparent riches (money) can disappear in a puff of smoke simply because it can be mismanaged by yourself or someone else, such as the banking system?

There are so many situations in life where we become conditioned to thinking in a certain way. How can we choose what is good for us? How can we accept what is useful and discount that which is not?
With so many more ways to communicate than there were in the past, we have the benefit of accessing information far easier that we did, but we can also be contaminated with information that may not be good for us as unique individuals. Ultimately, what is good for one person may not be good for another. Difficulties occur when one persons opinion is adversely projected on to another.
I like to free think. I like to listen to the opinions of others and draw my own conclusions. In some cases I agree in full with another persons opinion and in others, I may agree with elements of it.
Situations where free thinking can be restricted:
I’ve been discussing the subject with my grown children this evening. My son has been looking for a summer job in his break from university and has considered the “flipping burger” type of opportunities. It is somewhat interesting that after filling in the online applications forms along with the obligatory questionnaires that in some cases, the rejecting and reason for rejection states “not qualified”. This could be seen as a bit of an insult. However, those sort of jobs tend to be akin to the function of a battery hen. In other words, workers are expected to follow a basic set of instructions of what to say and what to do with very little opportunity for diversion. I experienced something similar some years ago when working in a call centre. I have to say that I lasted less than 2 days, choosing to walk out before I went mad! Doing the kind of work that requires that sort of discipline does not make somebody less intelligent, but I think that for some, it can instil restrictive thinking. There comes a point where we learn to do something a certain way. That can seem fine until such time as a change is required i.e. loss of job through redundancy. If we believe that we only have the ability to do one task or job, taking that away creates a lot of anxiety. It creates a self limiting belief.
Another motivator for writing on this subject today is the result of watching a YouTube video recommended to me. It presents, with fascinating and detailed information, an alternative way of looking at how the body works and how it is possible to self heal. I’m impressed with the way that Dr Bruce Lipton presents his findings. His enthusiasm is attractive as is his firm belief and confidence. This information is obviously not new, but it is also not mainstream thinking. Anything that promotes a better life is of interest to me.
Free thinking is powerful. Acting upon it can have positive or negative outcomes. We will, of course make mistakes along the way through trial and error. The issue in not how many times we get it right or wrong, it is the progression and wisdom that we gain though taking action.
Are you a free thinker?
If you work for an employer, have you considered whether elements of your work cause you to have limited beliefs?
Can you do a job or task as required, yet still allow yourself the ability think freely?
Does your job or business allow you to free think?
I’m looking for feedback upon what I have written here. I’m actually inviting you to challenge me on my opinion so that I can learn more.

I’ve had a real busy couple of weeks that involved a whole week of busking. See photo above. It’s one of the reasons I’ve not posted very much just recently. Various challenges and distractions have occurred involving a location move for me at work, a bereavement of a work colleague, a celebration of 23 years married and essentially, the completion of a book “Life Chapters” which is now available to purchase on Amazon/Kindle for £2.14. You can download it here
Writing the book and playing more music is all part of developing some independence.
What is independence?
It is freedom of thought without adverse influence by others. This then links to subsequent behaviour. There can be collective independence in the form of a nation. This is more related to autonomy where there is a form of guidance from those in authority.
What is dependence?
It is in fact the continual need of something or someone. Absolute dependence is devoid of responsibility. A new born child is absolutely dependant upon parents, surrogate or otherwise, to survive. If a child grows healthily, it will gradually gain independence over time.
What are the positives and negatives related to the above?
Being completely independent without some for of reliance upon other people from time to time would be a very lonely existence. We are, after all, social creatures blessed with the ability to communicate. We are created with a mouth to speak and ears to listen.
Being completely dependant means that we would be completely reliant upon others, all of the time. The challenging truth is that ultimately, through various circumstances, we WILL be let down to some extent. This is rarely intentional upon the person we are dependant upon. This circumstance occurs when: -
People move away, the help offered has been completed, people die.
In order to achieve fulfillment, it is useful to develop a healthy degree of dependence and independence, other wise known as interdependence.
I had situations in my life where I have been fortunate enough to receive help, guidance and support. This has resulted in developing friendly relationships with people. There have subsequently been situations where the help, support and guidance has been withdrawn. Sometimes that has occurred very quickly and on a few occasions quite aggressively. The result can be a feeling of being let down. I recognize that the “let down” feeling has much to do with an unbalanced level of interdependence that leans too much toward dependence. This is a tough lesson to learn, so keeping an awareness of a healthy level of interdependence will help to overcome the “let down” feelings.
Do you have a sense of independence in your life?
Have you ever felt let down by others?
Are dependent upon others or other “things”? If so, what are they?
Do you feel able to make adjustments?
